Restaurant Intensive Training

The Emerge Stronger Restaurant Intensive Training Program is designed to assist growing businesses by providing an engaging environment where business owners can learn how to increase their profitability from experts in the food and beverage industry.  Participants will learn how to troubleshoot operational issues, review their financial landscape and how to create a positive brand strategy and culture to capture new customers and attract/retain employees. 

The Emerge Stronger Intensive Cohort is an exclusive group selected for a six-month program designed to address the needs and challenges of established businesses.   Small, county - based food service businesses will get access to world class trainings, including one-on-one restaurant consultations and employee retention training sessions so they can provide a foundation of job creation for Prince George’s County residents.

By the end of this training, participants will:

  • Improve efficiency

  • Build a network of food and beverage experts

  • Establish and/or re-enforce business financial infrastructure

  • Create or update operations plan and employee training programs

  • Have the foundations of a business plan

  • Structure a brand strategy that captures new customers

  • Create a positive work environment for employees

Participant Eligibility

  • Restaurants, caterers, and food truck operators are eligible

  • Location must have a physical brick and mortar location within the County.  (Cottage based or home-based businesses are not eligible)

  • Valid food service permit from the Prince George’s County Health Department

  • In operation for one year or more as of July 2022

  • Provide financial statements that include profit and loss, cash flow, and demonstrate revenue growth

  • Be in growth phase and seeking to hire more staff

  • Have less than 25 employees

Application & Compliance

  • Completed Application

  • To comply with federal funding reporting requirements, participants of the Intensive Training Program must provide aggregated information on:

    • Employees race or ethnic origin

    • Estimated household income

    • Job type

    • This information must be submitted in aggregate form only.

How To Apply

    Session 1: Attracting and Retaining Quality Staff

    • Become an effective leader

    • Craft a healthy business culture for associates to thrive

    Session 2: Capturing New Customers

    • What does your brand represent?

    • How does your brand capture new customers and create loyalty?

    Session 3: Operational Troubleshooting

    • Demystifying profit and loss to maximize efficiency

  • (Limited Availability)

    Cohort Participants will receive free one-on-one assessment sessions with a restaurant consultant who will visit the establishment a normal day of service.

    The assessment will include:

    • Chef Observation (including set up)

    • Guest Observation

    • Review of financials

    • Consultation with management and staff

    Following the assessment, the business will receive an Action Plan that includes areas of opportunity, operational strengths and actionable targets.

    This Action Plan will be a road map for the business owners to follow to drive efficiencies, increase profitability and create more jobs for the community.

  • Cohort participants will attend bi-weekly training sessions to improve operational efficiencies to increase profitability. Each session will provide participants a deeper dive of Restaurant Intensive topics and offer supplementary topics to support the overall program goal of retaining and hiring Prince George’s County residents.

    • Menu Optimization

    • Developing a Financing Infrastructure

    Each session will be hosted by subject matter experts including Accountants, Human Resource professionals, attorneys, and food & beverage experts.
